The local brand Karkonoska Marka Lokalna – Treasures of the Mountain Spirit – IS THE ESSENCE OF THIS REGION!
Since 2004, Partnerstwo Ducha Gór [Mountain Spirit Partnership] has been looking for people, products and traditions on which the region’s identity and image could be founded. In the entire province of Lower Silesia, the issue of identity and tradition is not simple. After World War II, Lower Silesia was populated by people of many nationalities who brought very different traditions. In the region, Czech, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Lithuanian traditions can be found. What, then, could become the pillar of the region’s identity? Local products inspired by a diverse heritage can be one of its building elements.
What are local products?
Local product – product or service with which the region’s residents identify themselves, produced in a non-mass, environmentally friendly manner with the use of locally available raw materials, based on traditions. A local product becomes the region’s showcase by the use of its specific, unique character as well as by involving the residents in the development of local entrepreneurship
(Olga Gałek, 2002, The National Team for Local Products, operating at the Partnerstwo dla Środowiska [Partnership for the Environment] foundation).
The local brand is the expression of joint activities of people involved in the development of the region in which they live and from which they are proud.
The local brand is about defining characteristic features, the message as well as the rules for granting. It is the work of a group of people who value the region, its inhabitants, as well as their products and the services they provide. Thanks to their energy and work, the local brand is not just an empty word and sign, it is the people and products or services that are ambassadors of the region and the local brand. The key is to identify and offer products based on tradition and local resources, with which the people who live here identify themselves.
